A Simple April Update - Trimming Those Extra Limbs

Taking on a whole world of new this month means making room on the dinner table for more food. So, what's expendable? I'm looking at you, handmade centerpiece from some family member - who remembers which one.
Within my ever-expanding trench coat of "Jack of All Trades" ribbons hangs, among others, writing, scalp massages, and understanding people very quickly - including myself. I'm a recovering perfectionist...which is to say I used to be far worse than I am now, but very much still flirt with flawlessness. This'ere is what you call a double-edged sword. A self-made noose. A very cold tomato soup sandwich.

What that blah-blah equates to is a constant attempt to level-load myself while also pushing past any reasonable limits a single person should have.

Hello? Yes? Oh, is that you back injury for lifting too much weight that's followed me for years? Pull up your usual chair!

And you've brought this month's conundrum - letting go of fun projects! Well, the gang's all here now!

So while this month was breath-takingly great for finishing writing projects (more on that soon), it became time to knock some of the fun out of "Do Those Fun-ky Projects, Solo Boy". The main reason for this knocking is to be responsible. You know, adding to the household and showing affection and all that nonsense. This is mostly me-driven, but when it comes to my own goofs, if other people are already calling it a mistake, I should've noticed it earlier - period.

So what's falling off? The Youtubes, sadly. They're a fun final product but a real grind to put together. It was tough to find the motivation to truly stock up on them, which is your brain usually telling you to toss it into the cabinet for a while. I'm going to take a "do what you can" approach to them, but motivation and free time are in really, really low supply in that particular country.

Writing's cool though. Four scripts finished to an actual I-can-live-with-them state, two more on the way for May, and then only one more after that for the year. Well, we'll see about that. Writing radio show scripts comes and goes, and I'm on an idea watchlist for some other concepts. I'm super happy with what's coming out as they all feel fresh, focused, and f***able, which is all you can ask for with the written word.
I feel like talking more about writing, so I guess let's talk process. I've written thousands and thousands of pages that have gone into dozens of works, and some miniscule amount of those have been published/elicited some sort of emotional response. I compare it to baseball or meteorology in that any writer that sticks with it will be "paid" (not always in money) for missing their shot a lot.

My approach to writing is...random? It's just the world and me and my Dutch-angled mind, and that equation multiplies from and into weird places. The ideas I find leaping out come in scenes or sequences. The absolutely stellar strings of Funky Maggot Brain got me to a horror movie scene. The freakin' Moody Blues spat in my face a jukebox musical involving an accountant and a wizard.

Anyways, I suppose to relate this to you, dear reader, I've written what seeps into my brain to above-average success and I suggest you do the same. Again, it's not always going to be money and fame, but even at its worst, you'll have produced something truly yours, and that kind of passion keeps the AI overlords confused and afraid.

Vidya game development also happened in a more piecemeal way than I'd like. As advertised last month, the horror game has definitely been demo-layed to bring it up to where I would be proud to show it. The demo is coming this year without a doubt, and it'll be spooky and fun (which is always in doubt). Project Cube also found its way back up near the top of the heap, but on a trial basis. There's a limiter plate on that one since that mountain is...just really large, and that demo is a year or so away. P-prog...progress?

Alright that's enough - go out the back. i don't want the neighbors to know you were here.
