Video games, writings, musings, and meatings - the month of May had it all. Let's rub some spice on this well-done meateor and prepare to lick away. As we all stand over the grill of life, the great question that reverberates through our marrow is such - What kind of sauce do I want with these grilled zucchini? Many are led astray by BBQ sauce or mayonnaise. Some come close with ketchup or Holy Water. This month, I have stumbled upon the mustard to end all mustards, which is of course the very sauce of life. Just sit down, shut up, do things - Me, this month. I won't lie, this has been a bitch of a month. People have abandoned their posts, friends have been big ol' letdowns, and my Xbox Game Pass subscription ran out. Truly, these are the dijon of times. How I deal with these dips is unhealthy, but I could do worse to myself, my body, my Mustard God, and my horse landlord than cracking the glass on my 4th and 5th gears. "Your WHAT!? What are you talking about!?" Come, dear ready, into my gear box full of porn. According to several Google searches that AI has mangled, the concept of quit quitting - giving your bare minimum at work to grab that sweet paycheck - is well-known. I categorize this general work ethic as first gear: "I'm here, I'm working, then I'm going home." Second gear is where my floor is these days, something akin to feeling sick or unmotivated but there's always stuff to get done so do it, buddy boy. Third gear is where I've decelerated myself to since the earlier months of the year; humming along, singing a song, losing meat metaphors halfway through the bit etc. Fourth gear is something everyone has but only comes out in emergencies - the end of the month rush, the pissy client that needs results now, or the mother that won't share her covers at night. Those that work at start-ups or just thrive under pressure live for this gear. Adrenaline is their coffee and disorder leads to a sense of "progress = good". Welcome to my world - I've named every continent here and have lake houses no one would ever find even with a map. I've made friends here, made my name here, and have been hiding from a heart attack here. Becauuuusssseeee then there's fifth gear, which is not for everyone. Seriously, this is a whacky place to be mentally. The tools in front of you are yours to command and the speed at which they move make time jealous. You can see the code in the Matrix at this level, rolling with every punch because your zone is buying up neighboring land like the Monopoly guy. Meanwhile, your body is rotting; showers undone, age and eyes grinding away at triple speed, and your grocery bill dropping because you hardly eat. Don't get me started on the water bill. Anywho, due to the general pissed-off-ed-ness of how things have shaken down this month, I came home to fourth gear and intermittently hit on fifth. I've blown past reasonable goals and entered the extra credit zone in a world where extra credit doesn't mean a ding-dang thing. Well, it does - it's just no longer extra. Credit is credit, things done are things done, and finite jobs done quicker bring faster ends. Welcome to the ultimate point - I want many things done right now.
To that point, I'm finishing up one long project, pushing hard on others, and generally making wonderful progress. Panoramic's written portion is coming to fruition this week, I swear, while the editing, recording, and episode releasing can't go any faster. Taco Terror is getting a refresh that I'm looking to finish by the next Steam sale, and that's at about 80 percent. My other games are chugging right along. I won't talk too much about them because I'd love to introduce them over the next few months in their own posts. Writing, people, writing is the future - specifically, finally finishing some new scripts, polishing some olds, and applying some edits. That meat is close to getting freezer burn, so I'll make some meatballs or something out of them. Maybe a sculpture for Halloween. See? Found that metaphor again after all. No mustard about it.
