The Simple Shut in
Proof that I do, in fact, play games that are recent, The Artful Escape snatches my smooth nether regions immediately and without compromise.
The world is filled with many artistic assholes. One out of every ten-thousand of those assholes will be a famous artistic asshole. One out of every hundred of them will be good at what they do - and so forth until there is a “dat person did (blank) best all time GOAT” finally awarded.
Imagine being that person’s child after they die. That weight you feel crushing your chest into your spine is normal. That...is art.
The Artful Escape gives visuals and voice to this feeling with suspected weekend wendigo-man Francis Vendetti. His identity is in flux. The public want him to be one thing - a worthy successor to a folk legend - while he wants to have his own identity.
He suffers from the same expectation downturn for these people as the regular fast food burger does to those that watch the commercials before ordering. To be fair, he does it with precisely one-one-thousandth of the greedy, malicious intent as those wanting to fatten you up.
Many guitars, and guitar riffs.
Seriously, these riffs are not your normal...riff-raff.
Hrm, that last one...may have been Queen. Point still stands.
The aural bliss of Artful Escape extends into the stellar voice acting barbershop quartet of Apollo Creed, Shoichi, Cersei Lannister, and Merlin. You can feel everyone vibing on the ludicrous-yet-charming script that rummages into every corner of your imagination for inspiration. Not to mention the space drugs.
Yes, space drugs. Francis will sound very, very high on more occasions than you can shake a cosmic infinitude at. The text/adventure game element sucks death out of the room, replacing it with unlimited, instant retries. Not that you will need them too often as Artful Escape only uses about five buttons in total. Six if you jump from time to time.
Most of the time, you’ll simply be running and strumming - wailing, as the kids say. Your sick shreds will undress “the man” and gather adoring fans of sci-fi guitars around Francis. Even the wild life pays attention when he turns the volume up to eleven.
Comedy in games is a nearly impossible formula to crack. Luckily, trying is worth bonus points. There are a few hidden chuckle mines in this shallow jungle, but all of the writing comes off as heartfelt. Thus, I am charmed.
Nay, I am more than charmed. I. Am. In. ART with Artful Escape. Thirteen Cosmic Entities out of thirteen - a creative supernova of fun.
Now, if you will excuse me, there are other escapes I must attend. Most of them...from this very room.
Until I am allowed my next phone call, you...are welcome.
